Before you wishlist an upcoming game, check what is actually playable

A trailer, a demo, a playtest and an Early Access release answer different questions.

A release window tells you when a studio hopes to ship. It does not necessarily tell you what you can play today. Before deciding whether to follow a project, separate its announced plan from its current availability.

Read the current store listing

Look for the release field, then read the surrounding announcement. A full date, a quarter and a broad year carry different levels of precision. Record when you checked it. An old trailer title is not a reliable substitute for a current release announcement.

Keep the available versions separate

A demo is a sample. A playtest may require access and run for a limited period. Early Access means a purchasable development version rather than necessarily a finished 1.0 release. A game can offer a demo while its main release is still upcoming.

If development access is the attraction, read what the developer says is included now, what is planned and what could change. Treat an announced feature as a plan until it is available in the version you would actually receive.

Watch the decision, not just the spectacle

For a strategy game, look for an uninterrupted sequence showing what the player chooses and how the game responds. For co-op, check the supported player setup. For builders, look for the construction tools and the consequences of using them. A cinematic trailer can establish a setting without demonstrating any of those things.

Use our dates as a dated reference

Our game directory separates current store status from the older videos in which a project appeared. The official listing is linked on each page. Coverage published before a release is an archive entry, not a promise that the game is still unreleased today.
